The Oude Kerk is the oldest building in Amsterdam, consecrated in 1306 and rebuilt many times since. It now works as a church and an exhibition space, with contemporary art shown in the main hall and archive displays in the side chapels. The floor is made of gravestones, and a free audio tour explains the history. The church sits in the middle of the Red Light District, a few steps from the canal.
