An open air site of 1.4 kilometres on Bernauer Straße where a stretch of the border strip is preserved, with a visitor centre, a documentation centre and a viewing platform. All exhibitions are free.

Bernauer Straße was one of the places where the Wall ran along house fronts and cut streets in two. The memorial keeps a stretch of the border strip as it was, with the wall and the open ground behind it. Panels along the route explain who lived and escaped here, and the Documentation Centre and Visitor Centre add photographs and testimony indoors. From the viewing platform you look down on the strip and see how it was laid out.

The open air exhibition is open daily 08:00 to 22:00. The Visitor Centre and the Documentation Centre are open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 18:00. The last ascent of the viewing tower is at 17:45.

Tickets and booking

Free. Admission to all exhibitions on Bernauer Straße is free. Guided tours cost 5 euros, or 3 reduced.

Getting there

Nordbahnhof station on the S-Bahn is the closest, and Bernauer Straße station on the U8 line and tram M10 also stop along the route.

Wear a weatherproof layer, since most of the route is outdoors. Visit on a day from Tuesday to Sunday so the indoor centres are open.
