Queen Sophie Charlotte and her husband Frederick I had the central building put up from 1700 as a summer residence. Seven generations of Hohenzollern rulers redesigned its rooms and gardens, and after severe damage in the Second World War the palace was largely rebuilt. The Old Palace tour covers the Baroque parade apartments, the Porcelain Cabinet and the chapel. The visit is self guided, and an app with tours in several languages is free to download.
