The Tiergarten is a former royal hunting ground and now the largest park in the centre, a little bigger than Hyde Park. Paths and ponds run away from the traffic of the government quarter, and locals jog, cycle and picnic on the lawns. The Victory Column stands on a roundabout in the middle of the park and has a viewing platform. A walk from the Brandenburg Gate through the park is the easiest way to link the eastern and western parts of the centre.
