Castel Nuovo (Maschio Angioino)
The medieval and Renaissance castle beside the port, with a civic museum inside. Its round towers are the landmark of the waterfront.

The castle was begun in 1279 under Charles I of Anjou and rebuilt by Alfonso of Aragon in the 15th century, when the marble triumphal arch was added at the entrance. The civic museum fills the Palatine Chapel and a series of halls with paintings and sculpture. Allow about an hour and a quarter.

Tickets and booking
Adult ticket €10. Residents of Naples and its metropolitan area pay a reduced price, and visitors under 18 enter free.
Getting there
Municipio station on Metro Line 1 opens next to the castle, on Piazza Municipio.
Tip
Look at the marble arch at the entrance before you buy a ticket, then go in for the courtyard and chapel.
