A former Carthusian monastery on the Vomero hill, now a museum of Naples history with cloisters, a church and terraces over the bay. The view of the city is part of the visit.

The monastery was begun in the 14th century and rebuilt in the Baroque style in the 17th. It stands beneath Castel Sant'Elmo and now holds collections on the art, history and traditions of the city, including a large set of nativity scenes. The visit mixes church, cloisters, gardens and galleries, and the terraces make a good ending.

Getting there
Take the Funicolare Centrale up to Fuga on the Vomero and walk uphill for about 15 minutes, or take a taxi to the entrance.
Tip
Pick a clear day for the terraces and go in the morning, before the heat and the haze build.
