The galleries were cut into the soft volcanic rock from the 2nd century onward and became a place of pilgrimage because the tomb of San Gennaro lies here. The guided visit passes through two levels with basilicas, tombs and early frescoes. Access for visitors with reduced mobility is currently restricted.

Tickets and booking
Adult ticket €13. The standard adult ticket covers the guided visit.
Reserve a time online or by phone. Guided visits start every hour and booking is required for all visits.
Getting there
The entrance is on Via Capodimonte next to the basilica of Madre del Buon Consiglio, about 20 minutes uphill from Museo station or a short taxi ride.
Tip
Bring a light jumper. The temperature underground stays between 15 and 22 degrees.
