Old Town Hall and Astronomical Clock

The town hall was founded in 1338 as the seat of the Old Town council. The oldest part is the Gothic tower with its bay chapel and the medieval astronomical clock. Every hour between 8:00 and 23:00 the twelve apostles appear in the upper windows. The east wing was destroyed in the Prague Uprising on 8 May 1945 and was never rebuilt, which is why part of the square is open ground.

• The Gothic chapel in the bay
• The state rooms and the underground level on a guided tour

Opening hours

Open every day, 9:00 to 20:00 from April to December and 10:00 to 19:00 from January to March. The hours change on 24, 25 and 31 December and on 1 January, and the early bird discount does not apply on 25 December and 1 January.

Tickets and booking

Adult ticket CZK 350. The standard ticket is for the tower. A guided tour of the historical interiors is a surcharge paid on the day, and it cannot be bought online.

Tickets are sold on the ground floor, where a priority counter serves online ticket holders. Skip the line tickets can be bought online from the official seller, and they cover the tower only. Visitors under 15 must be with an adult.

Getting there

Metro A to Staroměstská, then a five minute walk. The clock is on the south face of the tower, facing the square.

Tip
