Vyšehrad is a national cultural monument and part of the protected historic centre of Prague. Its walls hold the Basilica of St Peter and St Paul, whose towers rise to 58 metres and whose carillon plays daily from 11:00 to 21:00. Beside it is the Vyšehrad Cemetery, the resting place of many Czech writers, composers and artists, with the Slavín tomb at the centre. From the ramparts you can see the Castle and the bends of the Vltava.

  • The open air theatre in the old fortification

Opening hours

Always open.

The grounds are open at all hours. The information centre at the Leopold Gate opens daily from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 18:00.

Free. Free to enter. Tickets are sold for guided tours and for some buildings at the information centre.

Getting there

Metro C to Vyšehrad, then a short walk through the Táborská gate towards the basilica.

Tip

Walk the ramparts on the river side at the end of the afternoon, when the light is on the Castle across the river.
